Lovecraft Biofuels is one of the most inspiring companies I've encountered in the nouveau transportation movement. The LA-based company started by Brian Friedman at an old Sunset Blvd. service station in Silverlake converts cars- especially Benzes- to run on vegetable oil. With a second location now running in Portland and well over a thousand veg-oil-chuggin' cars in circulation, this shop is the ultimate in grassroots, business-model-good companies that isn't about the hype- although they are cleverly branded, in my humble opinion- but instead about improving the fuel problem one vehicle at a time.Lovecraft also has a great group of people behind it. I've experienced first hand that they are humble and reluctant to be spotlight entrepreneurs, yet eager to share what they've learned and what inspires them with, for example, LA-area business students.
PS: Lovecraft brings to mind the ultimate anthem of veggie oil fuel, and in my mind of alternative transportation in general. It's a little ditty I discovered on one of the free monthly compilations sent to Relix subscribers:
